Celebrating the First 50 Years
Our History
Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC) is a public, two-year community college serving 100,000 citizens in 5 counties encompassing 30,000 square miles in Southwest Wyoming. The College was founded in 1959 as Western Wyoming Junior College. The College is governed by a 7-member Board of Trustees elected from the College taxation district of Sweetwater County.
WWCC is as unique as the areas that surround it. WWCC is a comprehensive community college that provides a great foundation for students because of its small class sizes, hands-on learning experiences and highly-qualified instructors.
The College prides itself on responding to the changing needs of local businesses and industries, primarily mining and energy, with exceptional academic and technical programs. Its success is based on a strong history of collaboration: collaborations with local industries, with high schools for concurrent and dual enrollment courses on-site and via compressed video and Internet, and with Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) in 9 of WWCC’s 11 school districts. WWCC has 6 residence halls that provide housing for 421 of the 873 full-time students who attend the main campus in Rock Springs.
