“Flamingos with Ears” is the title of this Spring’s Student Art Show at Western Wyoming Community College. The show will kick off with a reception and ceramic sale Friday, April 25 from 4:30 until 7:30 p.m. outside the art gallery at WWCC.

“This semester-end show highlights the work of art students who will eventually major and pursue all aspects of art and applied design,” said Professor of Art and Gallery Director, Dr. Florence McEwin.

The show will include student work completed in WWCC’s Photo I and II, Design: Color, Drawing II, Ceramics I-IV and Design: 3D courses. Also included are works made in the “Artist Book Introductory Workshop” taught by guest artist Peggy Johnston of Des Moines, Iowa.

“It is important for students to experience differing techniques, concepts and a variety of instruction to better determine their eventual professional path,” McEwin said. “A fair percentage of Western’s students go on to pursue careers in the teaching profession,” she added, “but with a great variety of differing emphases within the arts.”

The show’s title “Flamingos with Ears” describes an exercise image done on surrealism by Drew Liedtke of Green River. For this exercise, students were asked to blindly choose common nouns from a bowl and then put together an image.

The show will run from April 25 until August 20. It is free and open to the public. The WWCC Art Gallery is open Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
