Dance at Western Wyoming Community College is thriving with an array of dance styles, performance opportunities, and travel. Various levels of ballet, modern, jazz, and tap are offered, as well as courses in improvisation, composition, lighting, costuming, make-up, and physical conditioning.
The faculty members at Western all have professional backgrounds in dance and/or musical theatre. With one formal concert each Spring, highlighting choreography by faculty and guest artists, and one Fall showcase highlighting student works, Western students receive many opportunities to work with, dance for, and learn from nationally and regionally recognized artists.
Dance students at Western also gain important performing and educational experiences through outreach tours to local and regional schools and communities, as well as participation in a variety of college musical theatre productions and student sponsored events.
The dance concentration at Western Wyoming is designed to prepare students in a wide range of dance disciplines and possible transfer to a four-year institution. While maintaining the foundational training of ballet and modern, the program emphasizes the many styles of jazz and tap for those with an eye on a career in the professional world of dance.
The curriculum provides an appreciation of the art form and physical approach of dance, and encourages students to become more articulate movers and communicators in the dance field, all while earning an Associate of Arts Degree.
