Human Services
Human Service Specialist is a generic term for assistants who help provide service in mental health, addiction, occupational and community outreach settings. They work with all ages and may assist developmentally or emotionally disabled children or geriatric patients who need assistance. Human Service Specialists typically work under the professional supervision of social workers, mental health counselors, case workers, nurses and recreational and occupational therapists. They help provide the necessary links between case planning to behavioral outcomes in a field that continues to grow. Many of the opportunities in the field are in residential treatment programs or in community-based programs that provide transitional services.
