Compass Testing Information

Compass Score Legend

Students may retake the exam once per semester. The cost for retakes is $10. Students will be dropped from courses if they do not have the appropriate prerequisites.

English

	English	Reading
Level I	Enroll in ENGL 0950, Basic ENGL I or BAS 0620, Writing Skills AND BAS 0630 Grammar Skills; International Students: Enroll in HMDV 1502 English as a Second Language Compass Score: 01-38	Enroll in HMDV 1000, College Studies and BAS 0510 Q, Reading Skills Compass Score: 01-40
Level II	Enroll in ENGL 0955, Basic II English Compass Score: 39-64	Enroll in HMDV 1000, College Studies Compass Score: 41-73
Level III	Enroll in ENGL 0955, Basic II English or contact the testing coordinator about writing the essay to possibly test into English I Compass Score: 65-74	NO Extra Reading Course Required Compass Score: 74-100
Level IV	Enroll in ENGL 1010, English I Compass Score: 75-100	*NOTE: Students with low scores in several areas should be encouraged to take HMDV 1000 College Studies.

ACT: English 21 or higher English 1010
Reading 20 or higher No extra reading course is required

SAT: English 450 or higher English 1010
