Coach Bevell comes to Western with a tremendous amount of
experience and enthusiasm for the sport of basketball. He
served for 9 years as the head coach at McCook Community College
in McCook, NE, and three years as head coach at Western Nebraska
Community College. Most recently he has been the
assistant head boy's basketball coach at Brighton High School in
Salt Lake City. He also worked basketball camps for both
BYU and the University of Utah. Coach Bevell has an
associate degree from Blue Mountain Community College, a
Bachelor's of Science in secondary education from Western Oregon
University and a Master's of Science in athletic administration,
exercise physiology. He is committed to maintaining
Western's focus on student athletes. "My philosophy of
coaching is to create an atmosphere that generates success-one
where improvement, both individual and team, occurs on a daily
basis," Bevell said. He is also quoted as saying, "I
believe that a coach needs to be passionate and enthusiastic
about his program. His passion and enthusiasm will be
contagious to his players, which in turn will rub off on the
community."
Assistant Men's Basketball Coach Travis Archibald
Coach Archibald grew up in Laramie, WY. Coach
Archibald graduated from Kemmerer High School. He worked for a couple
of years and then came back to college to play basketball for two years
for Western. In his sophomore year, he was voted as team captain by his
team and started as a small forward. Travis helped lead the Spartans to
conference and sub-region championships averaging 12 points and 5
rebounds. Earning all-conference honors for academics, he graduated
with an Associate of Science degree in 2005 and felt he had a very
successful career at Western in both basketball and school.
