Garett Sherman, Head Women's Basketball Coach
Garett Sherman enters his first season as the head coach for the Western Wyoming women's basketball team. Sherman was the head women's coach at Allegany College of Maryland for four seasons compiling a 103-21 record, reaching two national tournaments and finishing as high as sixth in the nation. His teams were consistently ranked in the top 20 polls and during his tenure his teams won two Maryland State JUCO championships, two Region XX Championships and two District Championships helping his team reach two National Tournaments. Coach Sherman was named "Coach of the Year" in Maryland, Region XX, and District J for each of the years his teams won championships. In addition, he coached three All Americans, ten Maryland All State and eight Region XX selections.
Before being a head women's coach, Sherman spent five seasons as the assistant men's coach at Allegany College of Maryland. During his time with the Trojans men's team, he was able to help recruit six All Americans, eleven Maryland All State, and eleven All Region XX sections. During his stay as an assistant men's coach his teams compiled a 105-49 record winning one Maryland JUCO State Championship, two Region XX Championships, and one District Championship that propelled his team to a national tournament appearance.
Sherman also spent a year as the head women's coach at Gordon State College, where he was hired to start a new women's basketball team. After a year of recruiting, budget constraints delayed the start of the women's basketball program and Sherman was moved to the men's basketball team as the Assistant Coach. During that year Sherman was able to help recruit three All GCAA conference players and two players who made the GCAA All Freshman Team. After a year as the assistant coach, Sherman was promoted to head coach for the men's basketball team at Gordon State College and two months later resigned to take the head women's coaching position at Western Wyoming Community College.
Mike Swenson, Assistant Women's Basketball Coach
Mike Swenson is entering his 5th season on the Lady Mustangs coaching staff. He began his college athletics career as a student-athlete at the University of Sioux Falls in Sioux Falls, SD. Swenson was on scholarship for football, basketball, and baseball during his collegiate career. The University of Sioux Falls football team compiled a 14-0 record in 1996 earning them a National Championship in Football. His team was also inducted into the USF Hall of Fame in 2006. Coach Swenson graduated from USF with a bachelor's of fine arts degree in education in 1997.
Becca Lewis, Assistant Women's Basketball Coach
Coach Becca Lewis is a 1998 graduate of Rifle High School in Rifle, CO. While in high school she earned both All Conference and All State honors in basketball and softball. After high school she attended Western Wyoming Community College from 1998 to 2000 on a basketball and academic scholarship. As a sophomore, she earned WCCAC All Conference honors. Coach Lewis has been a resident of Rock Springs since graduating college, is very active in her community and currently serves as the Marketing Manager at Western Wyoming Beverages. This will be her first year as the volunteer assistant coach for the women’s basketball program at WWCC.
