The 2012-2013 season is here for the WWCC Women's basketball team. The team has gone 172-71 over the past eight years and averaged over 21 wins a year in that time period. Last year's team had one of the best records in the school's history at 24-7 and went 11-5 in sub-region play which was good for third place. The Mustangs have had two of the best back to back seasons in school history going 47-13.
Five Players will return from last year and they will be joined by eight freshmen and a junior college transfer. The biggest voids to fill will be Alissa Willard and Jordan Giles. Willard will play at Idaho State and Giles at Dixie State.
Returning for the Mustangs this year are Shanna and Shyanne Halalilo (twins), Mike Pinner, Karah Jeppesen and Kira Miller. Shanna Halalilo started the second half of the season and averaged 8.0 PPG and 4.0 RPG. She will be the team's best returning 3-point shooter. Other returners include Shyanne Halalilo who missted half the season after ACL surgery and averaged 3.5 PPG and 2.0 RPG. Mika Pinner will be the tallest Mustang at 6'2" and she averaged 8.3 PPG AND 3.9 RPG. Karah Jeppesen and Kira Miller also return as Karah averaged 2.9 PPG and 2.3 RPG and Kira averaged 2.4 PPG and 1.5 RPG.
Eight freshmen and one junior college transfer will join the above five sophomores. "We have an excellent group of sophomores returning and we feel our freshmen are very athletic and some can contribute right away!" Coach Swartz added, "how they adjust to this level of play will be the big question."
This year's freshmen include Theresa Allgaier from Rock Springs, Taylor Hughes from Utah, Whitney Mitchell from Utah, Emily Moore from Utah, Grace Newman from Rock Springs, Erica Shenton from Idaho, Tiffany Trimble from Colorado and Dannika Webb from Utah.
