The WWCC
Children's Center, located at the Rock Springs campus, was established
in 1975 and adheres to the Wyoming Department of Family Services
guidelines for a group daycare and preschool. The Children's Center
provides a safe, stimulating, enriching, and supportive environment for
preschool children of college students and employees. The Center also
provides observation and field experience for college students in
education, nursing and psychology.
The
Children's Center seeks to provide opportunities for young children to be
with other children in an environment which encourages developmental
learning experiences; to provide appropriate experiences that contribute to
the developmental needs of the child, emotionally, cognitively, and
physically. The Children's Center seeks to provide opportunities for
learning and meaningful play that are based on each child's individual
needs, interests, and abilities; to provide opportunities that will build
important foundations for future reading skills, math skills, and social
relationships; and to provide a safe atmosphere where each child's sense of
self-worth and competency are developed.
The curriculum for the Children's Center includes indoor and outdoor
activities, quiet and active times, and group and individual experiences.
Some of these experiences consist of language arts, mathematics, art, music,
literature, cooking, science, social studies, computer experiences, blocks,
puzzles, dramatic play, physical exercise, manipulative toys, and social
interactions. Using a developmental curriculum and recognizing that each
child is an individual, the staff of the Children's Center hope to help the
individual child to develop emotionally, mentally, and physically. Enhancing
each child's self concept during their time in the Center is a major goal.
