§  Basic file management skills

o   Saving files

o   Renaming files

o   Deleting files

o   Navigating file structures

§  Send/Receive email

§  Send/Open attached files

§  Installing software

It’s helpful to have someone locally who can help you with technical problems like hardware and software installation.

This course is not a beginning keyboarding course. It is expected that you can type at least 40 words per minute, have a basic understanding of word processing software, and be able to format basic business documents.

Will any materials be distributed to the students outside of the online environment?

No

List any other information students need to know about this class:  You must have a dedicated computer system to load the required keyboarding software. A public machine (i.e. library computer) will not work for this course. However, you can use the software in the OIS Lab on the Rock Springs campus or the Green River Center Computer Lab. If you are near one of our Outreach Sites, please check that site to see if they have the software loaded in their Lab.

There will be deadlines for assignments and tests.   Your instructor will provide you with a schedule of assignments, tests, and due dates to help you plan your time accordingly. Because this is an online course, you MUST be self-motivated and able to work on your own to meet deadlines.  Good reading comprehension and problem solving skills will help you be successful in this course.
