FAQ’s

Question:  Where can I buy a network card?

Answer:  Network cards can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, Staples or the WWCC bookstore.  Make sure if you live in the dorms, you get a wired network card and if you live in the residence halls, you get a wireless network card. 

Question:  I had Internet and it stopped working.  What is the problem? 

Answer:  We ask that you at least wait a day.  Sometimes the network may go down for a while.  If the problem persists, call and make an appointment with the IT department and we will address the problem.  Be patient as the demand for work in the dorms and residence halls can be intensive at times.

Question:  I currently have an ISP.  Can I still use them for Internet service?

Answer:  Yes, but if you are from another town or state you will want to make sure that they have a local number for dialing from Rock Springs.  If they do not, you will be dialing long distance and it will be expensive.  Internet through the college is free of charge and should be taken advantage of.  You may even consider canceling your service until you return home again.

Question:  There is only one connection in our dorm and we have more than one computer.  What do we do?

Answer:  You, the student, must buy a switch, not a router. The school will not provide these for the students.  You can purchase these at Wal-Mart, Radio Shack or Staples.

Question:  I’m having problems installing my network card…can you help?

Answer:  The IT department is not allowed to install hardware on student computers.  If you think your card is working and you are still unable to connect to the Internet, call our Help Desk (382-1676) or email (helpdesk@wwcc.wy.edu ) and we will set up an appointment to check your connection.

Question:  My computer has a virus.  What do I do?

Answer:  Make sure your antivirus is up to date then run a virus scan.  If you are still experiencing problems, contact your computer manufacturer.

Question:  I have a laptop.  Can I connect on campus?

Answer:  Yes, you can connect on campus.  Wireless access is available in the Atrium around the pendulum and in the library.
