Director of Library Services
After graduating from Western Wyoming Community College in 2003, I transferred to the University of Wyoming where I obtained a BA in Literature/ Literary Analysis and I completed my MLS at Emporia State University in 2009. The emphasis of my graduate work was reference services and library management. I worked for the Sweetwater County Library System for 6 years prior to my employment at Western Wyoming Community College. Intellectual freedom and open access to information are the foundational library principals I hold most dear. I believe in the absolute importance of our First Amendment Rights and do my utmost to ensure the collection at Hay Library represents all points of view.
I live with my husband Andy and our shaggy dog Captain. My hobbies include: traveling, letter writing and backpacking. I also love to drink tea and eat food I didn't have to prepare myself. I enjoy reading old, depressing works of fiction as well as books on etiquette, and inspiring or quirky travel journals.
I have lived in Rock Springs my entire life and have been married to my husband Jeff for more than half of that time. Family is very important to me. I have two kids and a new grandson, Jackson. Of course I love to read and also enjoy scrapbooking and camping.
I have worked in libraries for a total of ten years with 6 years of service at the Hay Library. I am responsible for processing all of the periodicals here as well as helping students and other library patrons locate and check out library materials.
Cataloging library materials is essential to the proper functioning of Hay Library. I enjoy my time cataloging very much; I am good at detail oriented work. I work very hard to ensure that the records in the card catalog are up to date and accurate so students and other researchers can find what they need easily.
I was born in North Carolina on a dark and stormy night. I attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and received a BA and MA in English. Upon graduation I found employment at my hometown library. There I staffed the reference desk for 8 years. Enrollment followed at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where I obtained my MLIS.
I relocated to Wyoming in 2006, where I was employed as Manager of the Rock Springs Library for 5 years. I joined the staff at Hay Library in April of 2012. At present I assist students and faculty with their informational needs, order content for the library, and work closely with the Director and staff of Hay Library to ensure its smooth operation. My interests include hiking, UFC and MMA, wandering about, and books – all sorts of books.
My office door is open, come by for a visit. I look forward to working with you all!
I was born in Bonanza, Nicaragua where I lived with my family until I was 13 years old. I attended the St. Jonsbury Academy in Vermont before enrolling at Claremont College in California. After 2 years at Claremont I transferred to the University of Arizona where I obtained a BA in English and Linguistics. I also met my husband, Rick Kempa, while attending UA. I have lived in Rock Springs with Rick for the last 25 years.
I am so in enchanted by libraries that I have been a librarian for 30 years, 25 years here at WWCC. I love working at Hay Library. I am a master gardener and tend all of the beautiful plants in the library.
If you're looking for materials on a specific subject, don't hesitate to ask me for assistance; I know the library like the back of my hand. I have been doing Interlibary Loan for many a year as well. If you can’t find a book here at Hay, let me know, I will search other libraries and find you what you need for free. I would also like to chat with you and help you to access the library databases.
Evening Library Assistant
I was born in Rock Springs and am a Western Wyoming Community College Alumni. I graduated from UW with a BA in Anthropology and a BS in Geology. I attended CU Boulder where I earned a MS degree in Museum Studies in 2011.
I am from Rock Springs and have worked at Western Wyoming Community College for about 4 years. I am responsible for keeping the Hay Library in tip top condition in order to provide the best possible environment for our students, employees, and other visitors. I graduated from WWCC last May with an AS degree.
I have lots of hobbies and interests. I am a member of the local Amt Guard group as well as a member of the Actors' Mission. I also enjoy playing video games and reading.
I know the WWCC campus very well so if you need directions to a classroom or office don't hesitate to ask me.
