High School Concurrent Program

Getting a jump start on your future!

Western Wyoming Community College provides a great opportunity for students whose educational achievements warrant accelerated or extended coursework while still in high school. We encourage students with outstanding academic ability to consider getting a head start on their college program by enrolling in classes through WWCC while they are still in high school.

WWCC offers a number of options for these students: The ability to enroll in courses after the regular school day through the main campus or outreach programs; The ability to enroll in compressed video and other extended learning opportunities with other students throughout the service area; Or the ability to take classes within the high school that are taught at a college level.

Deciding whether to take advantage of this opportunity is an important decision. Think carefully before you embark on college-level coursework while still in high school. Remember, the goal is not to take on too much responsibility or become overly stressed during your senior year.

Things to consider before you register!

checkAm I a senior with high level academic capabilities?

checkDo I have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average?

checkDo I have a high ACT or SAT composite?

checkHas a high-level high school academic performance come easily for me?

checkWill my high school instructor in this content area recommend me for a college course?

checkAre there high school classes that I would benefit from more than this college class?

checkDo I have time for a college course?

checkDo I realize it will take a greater time commitment and my outside activities cannot interfere?

checkDo I understand that the grade I earn in this class will go on my permanent college transcript?

checkHave I taken the appropriate WWCC assessments?

checkWhere do I plan to attend college after high school? Do they accept concurrent credit?

If you are uncertain about whether you meet the criteria above, contact your high school counselor.

Enrollment Procedure

1. If you are taking classes on your own after the regular school day, come to campus or to your local outreach site with your completed high school concurrent application. Applications may be obtained from high school counselors or through any WWCC office. You will be asked to complete a registration form and pay your tuition and fees. Ask your high school counselor about books.

2. If you are taking an approved high school class in your high school during the school day, complete the high school concurrent application and the regular registration forms. Tuition for these classes is paid by Western Wyoming Community College.

3. Remember, once you have completed the registration process, you are officially in the class. You must submit a signed drop slip by the designated deadline in order to drop this class without getting an "F" grade.

Remember that by choosing to enroll in this WWCC-sponsored class, you are a college student not a high school senior.  There is a difference!

Transfer of credit earned while in high school
Colleges have varying policies on the acceptance of college credit that is earned while a student is still in high school. Some accept the coursework without a problem. Some accept only coursework that is not dual counted for high school graduation. Some do not accept credit at all. You are responsible for researching this situation prior to enrolling in a concurrent class. You do not want to find somewhere down the road, that you have wasted time and perhaps money. It is frustrating to repeat coursework.

What should you do?
Think about the colleges you might plan to attend. Call the registrar’s office of the colleges you are considering. Ask them what their position is on accepting credit earned while still in high school. After they respond, ask them if they could possibly follow-up with the information in writing
